Peru: Encouraging a Passion for Christ & the Nations

In the last month or two, I’ve had the opportunity to preach or teach nearly two dozen times in churches all over Peru, from the southern deserts (Tacna) and the central jungles (Villa Rica) to the majestic Andes (Huascaran).  At one point in the first week of June, I had delivered 15 messages in less than 3 weeks.

One of our goals is to teach Peruvian churches to be more purposeful and passionate about reaching out with the Gospel in their own cities, provinces, and nation! Peru has changed a lot since I first arrived (17 yrs ago). Although there are still many poor people and needy neighborhoods, the economy has continued to grow and overall quality of life has improved for most. We are not far from the day when Peruvian churches will be able to support their own cross-cultural missionaries and become SENDERS (not only receivers)!

They have need to prepare themselves NOW in the knowledge of Christ and the Gospel, by building a God-glorifying, people-loving culture that is willing to do whatever it takes to reach the nations with the Gospel; including many of the most difficult unreached nations that remain.

Pray that as God provides more opportunities and resources to the Peruvian church… that they wouldn’t be deceived into merely building personal wealth, but rather investing in the eternal Kingdom of Christ that is conquering hearts among every people and nation on earth!

Also, here are some practical ways that any who feel called to help can do so…

– Our two Latino missionary families in NW China will be visiting home for a much needed furlough by year’s end. Tickets are around $1000/each (more than one month’s “salary” for each family).

– D & K are a young couple from Venezuela, currently here in Peru, preparing to serve in NW China. Their Mandarin language classes are about $200/month total (for both of them).

– Long-term regular support is needed for each of these families serving among western China’s unreached, as well as for those who are still to be sent (ie, D & K).

– We have recently gotten to know a young lady named Maria, and her father, who is a pastor in the jungle of eastern Peru. She is attending nursing school with the goal of serving the Lord with her career one day, possibly overseas. But her family is struggling to come up with even her bus fare to class each day, not to mention the tuition. $100/month would go a long way!
