I have read lots of great reviews about the movie “Fireproof” coming out this weekend (Sept 26-28), and I wanted to take a minute to recommend it to all of you. If you have a minute, please check out the movie’s website to learn more about this film.

I will be perfectly honest. The reason that I am so excited about this movie is because it is an authentic Christian movie. I have heard that the Gospel is clearly portrayed in this film. Also, the crux of the movie involves the reconciliation of a husband and wife. What could be more important than these two things: the salvation of a soul and the healing of a marriage?

I have sometimes heard people say that they they don’t like it when a movie is so obviously evangelistic. They say it seems cheesy and unprofessional. However, I think that is an illogical way of looking at it. What is wrong with a movie portraying an event that happens hundreds, if not thousands, of times every day in our nation and around the world? A lost soul coming to true repentance and faith in Jesus is a real event that occurs regularly (and hopefully has occurred in each of our lives) in our world.

What is wrong in showing an event like that take place within a movie? Is it “cheesy”, or is it a relevant and real-life look at what God can do to a person?
