After a number of setbacks leading up to this past weekend, I was finally able to sit down and spend a lot of quality time with our young Christian (former-Muslim) brother. We spent most of our time working through the Gospel of Luke. He read through all of Luke on Saturday and Sunday, and I went through with him and explained many of the parables and dialogues that I thought were most needful for him at this time.

Can you imagine opening the Bible and reading it for the very first time? Most of us, even if we were not raised in church, have known many of the Bible stories for as long as we can remember.

For someone like our brother, even the most obvious and world-renowned stories are virtually unknown. Many Bible passages that rely on other verses to give them their context, can seem to make no sense at all to someone reading them for the first time.

Now our brother has been a Christian now for a couple of years. He has read much of the New Testament during that time. However, almost all of what he has read was on his own, without someone to help explain the texts and to point to all the other scriptures that build up to and explain the verses being read.

So this weekend was a really awesome time of going deeper into scripture, both for our young brother and for myself! I found myself ‘rediscovering’ many Bible verses and parables as I explained them to our brother and read them through the eyes of someone who is discovering these rich truths for the very first time!

Please pray for him, that he would continue going deeper into the Word in the coming months. And please make sure that you are in God’s Word on a daily basis! Dig deep and feed yourself on God’s eternal truths.

(While I’m on the subject of going “Deeper”, please check out this amazing conference that is going to take place in Atlanta on October 17-18. I am not going to be able to make it to this conference, but I really wish I were! Please make plans to be there if you are able.)
