Today we are going in search of the remote Tibetan village of Tufang. This village lies in one of the most hard-to-reach areas of this region, surrounded by snowcapped mountains on all sides. Other than going directly over mountains that are at least 12,000 ft. high, the only way in is by hiking up a very narrow and rocky canyon until it finally opens up in the wider valley that eventually (hours later, on foot) leads to Tufang Village.
There is no electricity in the village, and it is said to have just 100 families. These Tibetans raise livestock and grow a few vegetables to survive. The valley floor where they live is surrounded by a low dense forest that is nearly inpenetrable because of the massive amounts of briars and thorns.
Tu – Fang in Chinese literally translates as ‘Dirt – Houses’. We are going to try to hike there today (myself and 4 other co-workers) to see what Tufang is really like, to pray for its people and the region, and to make future plans for ministry among the locals.
