Rocky Road
Late last night on the way home from a weekend trip to fellowship with some friends, we had a blowout at about 50 mph on a curvy mountain highway. The tire didn’t blow without cause: both of the tires on the right side of the minivan ran directly over a jagged, softball sized rock, knocking a hole the back right tire.
China’s highways are notorious for all of the stuff that one might happen to find laying on them, but rocks are probably the most common and the most dangerous. Whereas I only hit the ‘smaller’ softball sized rock, a little farther down the highway I came around a corner and found a large boulder completely blocking my lane. I was going slow enough to be able to miss it easily, but what if I would’ve blinked just as I came around the corner?
The rocks I encountered last night were probably there as a result of recent rain and thunderstorms that have hit our region, but one wonders how many days they had sat there with cars, trucks, buses, and motorcycles constantly having to swerve to miss them.
Please pray for our safety as we live and drive in a region that is simply a bit more dangerous than most!
