This evening I came across the prayer journal that I was using way back in the summer of 2003 when I had the experience that I wrote about in a story entitled “4am Conversation w/ a Homeless Man“. The date and the time on the top of the page in my journal, along with the name of the town where it happened, all helped to jog my memory a little bit and I have made some minor edits to the original story that I wrote on July 15, 2008. I encourage you to read it once again.
The prayer I wrote that night just before going out into the streets was encouraging to me as I re-read it tonight. And the short follow-up prayer that I evidently wrote after returning from my late-night excursion is even more interesting as I refer to the “divine appointments” that God had just provided for me.
This is a great example of God answering even the shortest and simplest of our prayers. Since I wrote most of the original in (broken) Spanish, I have translated it here into all English:
Before hitting the streets:
“Father, thank you for the opportunity to go out tonight and share my *testimony on the streets of this city. Thank you for Your protection. Help me to continue doing all that you want me to do. Open my eyes to see the Truth and to see all that I need to do in obedience to Your Word. Please give me much of Your wisdom.”
Upon returning from the streets:
“Thank you again for the divine appointments and for your mercy upon me. You are the King of Kings!”
*The tract that I was distributing that night was the Chinese translation of my own testimony.
