HOLDENVILLE, Oklahoma — Doctors told the Pedro and Luli Rodriguez several times, their son would die, but he defied all odds and lived through contracting the MRSA virus. He’s a boy of few words, but his story speaks for itself.

Geovonnie Rodriguez went into a hospital with a fever of 105.6 degrees, and doctors diagnosed him with MRSA, a staph infection resistant to antibiotics.

“MRSA got in his whole system,” Pedro Rodriguez said.

Geovonnie spent months in the hospital, undergoing at least a dozen surgeries. Part of his right leg had to be amputated. The MRSA was everywhere, except his heart.

“When they told me his heart wasn’t touched, I already knew that God was in control,” Luli Rodriguez said.

His family and friends prayed for a miracle, and somehow Geovonnie survived.

Geovonnie recently attended his first full day of school, assisted by his enthusiastic friends.
