Live from Hong Kong
I am in Hong Kong tonight with my family, waiting to fly out to the States tomorrow at noon.
I know that I should have a whole bunch of interesting stories to tell about travelling through China and walking the streets of Hong Kong, etc… but I am dead tired and my mind is anything but creative (or active) right now, so I am going to default to a subject that is often on my heart and running through my head (even when other programs are shut down).
So here goes:
Ray Comfort first penned his sermon “Hell’s Best Kept Secret” way back in the early 80’s after having studied and been convicted by the truths taught and exemplified by men of old like C.H. Spurgeon, John Wesley, and George Whitefield.
Here is a different sermon excerpt (from an old John MacArthur sermon transcript) that I came across recently that shares some of the thoughts that likely encouraged Ray to preach his message (Hell’s Best Kept Secret) so passionately and to seek to spread it as far and wide as possible:
“George Whitefield called preachers to wound deeply before they heal.
He even said, “Lord, pardon me for giving comfort too soon.”
Spurgeon wrote, “Sometimes we are inclined to think that a great portion
of modern revivalism has been more a curse than a blessing.”
“Because it has led thousands to a kind of peace before they have known their misery,
restoring the prodigal to the father’s love and never making him say,
‘Father, I have sinned.’
Unhumbled, they came into the church,
unhumbled they remain in it,
and unhumbled they go from it.”
Gospel without Law produces faith without repentance.”
If you have never taken the time to listen to the sermon “Hell’s Best Kept Secret” by Ray Comfort, please do so as soon as possible.
It is not the uniqueness of Ray’s message or the novelty of it that makes it so impacting, but his simple revealing of the fact that modern evangelicalism has lost something vitally important in the past 100 or so years.
By the way, if you go to the “Hell’s Best Kept Secret” page that I have already linked to 3 times in this post, look for one testimony in particular in the middle of the page testifying to the usefulness of this message. I am famous! Just kidding.
