Imagine yourself seated uncomfortably in the too small seat of a Chinese “air-conditioned” (the emergency exit hole in the roof of the bus provided a strong breeze for all) express bus. The trip you are going to take covers nearly 300 miles and is supposed to take about 5 hours.

As the bus driver hits the Chinese interstate highway, you suddenly feel like you have entered a race course. Trucks, cars, SUVs, other buses, nothing is going so fast that our bus driver can’t fly past them as if they were standing still. Only two (legal) lanes of traffic? Think again. For our bus driver, the emergency parking zone on the right hand side of the road is the PASSING LANE of choice!

For him, it is nothing to jerk the large passenger bus into the emergency lane to jolt around a slow-going truck or car. What else was he supposed to do? The real passing lane had another car in it that was
only doing 10 mph over the speed limit!

Okay, enough sarcasm. But this guy was really one of the most insane drivers I have seen in China… and I have seen many! I usually don’t get nervous, because I figure that the driver is going to do what he can to keep himself (and us!) safe, even if he appears to be driving a little crazy. Well, this guy had me praying and thanking God that His angels were watching over us!

Thank you to all of you who pray for us regularly. You never know how God is answering your prayers… today he protected myself and 12 other brothers and sisters who were with me, and he even protected the loco Chinese bus driver in the process!
